You all set that up. Set what up? About the mule. She's made a signal or somethin. A dead mule signal. Yeah. Boyd leaned and spat and shook his head.
This week has yielded some great progress on Do You Still Love Her?. I was having some struggles with one of the four chapters that it takes place in, and once I got a handle on that, it's starting to come along very nicely. The only shame is that work is getting in the way of doing more work on this manuscript and the editing on my other two. As the title shows, I am onto the second book in the Border Trilogy, The Crossing. So far it is fantastic, and I am liking it over All

Have you always been crazy? I don't know. I never was much put to the test before today.
Well, this week has been a good writing week. I have gotten a good thousand or so words in on Do You Still Love Her? It is still a very challenging piece to work on, but that is also why I love it. As the title quote shows, I finished All The Pretty Horses and am now starting The Crossing. All the Pretty Horses was a great read, and I am very curious how the trilogy plays out. I am very much enjoying going on John Grady's journey. It was a really good coming-of-age story. On

There, he said. You see? You see how this is bad for one's billiard game? This thinking? The french have come into my house to mutilate my billiard game. No evil is beyond them.
This week I got some writing on Do You Still Love Her? and it feels great. I am grabbing and pulling some neat threads on the story lately, and it's really fun and also intense to write. Good times. On the reading front, as the title shows. I started Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy. I am on part 3 of All the Pretty Horses, and it's great so far. I am really digging the ranch life aspect. On the TV front, I finished two series. The first was that Marshals Taylor Sheridan show

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Well, I have not been able to get any writing done this week as my job and some other life stuff are sucking my bandwidth really lean. I did, however, do some light editing and research for Do You Still Love Her?. So I at least got that in. I am not sure if I am working again this weekend, but if not, I am hoping to get some writing sessions in over the weekend. As the title shows, I finished Animal Farm, and it was fantastic. Just a great fairy tale about Russian history, an

So the animals trooped down to the hayfield to begin the harvest, and when they came back in the evening it was noticed that the milk had disappeared.
Well, this week has been a bit light on the writing as it's really busy with the day job, but I am still managing to make some nice progress on Do You Still Love Her? I am having a really chaotic and fun time writing this one. As the title shows, I started reading Animal Farm by George Orwell, and it's a fantastic little tale. Knowing the history that it's based on makes me chuckle at the book. It's fantastic. On the TV front, I watched a show called Memories of a Killer. It

Sorry James Joyce, I tried, I really did.
On the writing front, I have been making some nice progress on Do you still love her?. It's an absolute beast to write. I am writing everything like totally out of order, and it's wild, but also insanely fun. On the reading front, as you might inquire from the title. I have put down Ulysses after like 350 pages. It just was not doing anything for me at this moment in my life. The first 150ish pages or so, I was trying to find something in it, and finding some stuff to chew on

This week has actually been really productive on the writing front despite being busy at my day job. I’m definitely at that exhausted but rewarded phase of the week. I finished that short I was working on. It’s called The Highway. It’s a nice like 2,300 short story that I’m really proud of as it’s the shortest I’ve written. I also submitted it to the RBC PEN Canada new voices competition which it has absolutely zero percent chance of winning but whatever 🤷♂️. If I feel chee

Well, this week has been productive on the short story I am working on. I am really liking the back half of this story; it's fun to figure out where it's going. I am hoping to finish it this weekend. On the reading front, I am still working my way through Ulysses, and it's unlike anything I have read before. Some parts are great, and other parts have me re-reading, but on the whole, it's not bad so far. On the TV front, I started watching Peaky Blinders, and that's a great cr

On his wise shoulders through the checkerwork of leaves the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.
Well, I got some writing done this week for the new short story I am working on. I think I mentioned in a previous blog post, it's way shorter than I've written a short before; for context, my shorts are usually 10-12k words, while this one will be 2k, maybe a few hundred more. That said, it is very fun and challenging to take on a shorter story like that, and I am having fun with it. As the title shows, I started Ulysses by James Joyce. I am only three chapters in, but it's

Well, this week has been slow on the writing work front. The day job is busy. I've managed to start a new little short story in light of that, though. It's way shorter than I have ever done, but it's fun. On the reading front, I finished Normal People, and it was a really nice read. Quite the change of pace from my last reads, but that was the point. Just a nice read. I think now I am going to try and jump into Ulysses, which will be fun. On the TV front, I have been re-wat

He reads over these drafts repeatedly, reviewing all the elements of prose, moving clauses around to make the sentences fit together correctly.
Well, this week has been productive on the writing front. I finished two chapters of Do You Still Love Her? They were close to being done, so it's nice to have them in the bag, and now I can focus on the other two chapters. Also, this week I started playing with a new short story idea. Not gonna say anything till I am further into it, but it's cool. On the reading front, I am still working through Normal People as the title quote shows. It's a great read. Nice change of pace

Well, I managed to get some writing in this week for Do You Still Love Her? The progress is coming nicely, and I am happy and really enjoying this one. On the reading front, as the title quote shows, I am reading Normal People by Sally Rooney. So far, it's really good and a nice change from the last few reads. On the TV front, I am caught up on Shrinking, and god dam is that show good. It's got heart, good writing, humour, and great chemistry between the cast. Just watch it

Yay it's Friday! I can't wait to end work and order a pizza and watch a movie. As far as book work goes, this week had none. I was pretty burnt out this week, as starting this new job and it has been busy and it's their busiest time of the year, and sometimes cramming in a couple of creative hours in the day just is not possible when your wiped. I am hoping that a week of somewhat rest, I can dive back into the words and edits this weekend and next week. On the reading front

The dying are selfish, he thought; they want their moments to themselves, like children.
Well as the new job goes on longer I am able to adjust for writing. This week I was able to get like 1200 words out in the mornings before starting work. We start our busy time soon, so well see how that goes but for now I am just happy that I have time and energy to write before and sometimes after work. I think I am far enough in on my third book to give some updates on it. The title I think will be Do You Still Love Her . It tells the tale of four members of a small town d

A child of god much like yourself perhaps.
Well this week I finally got back into the writing grove after starting this new job. God it was pissing me off that I had no time or energy to write or work on other projects. However, now that I am settling in I am able to write around the schedule and make it work, just makes for long days which is fine. On the reading front I finished Absalom, Absalom! , and it was great. Will need a re-read at some point. It was great Faulkner. The section in the university, while also k

Another week in the bag and another Friday.
I’ve managed to get some more writing down on the new book. Now that I’ve kinda adjusted to my new work schedule I’m able to write around it. So it’s slower progress then I’m used too, but hey it’s still words on paper. On the reading from I’m about half way through Absalom, Absalom! And it’s great. It’s peak Faulkner in Faulkner's world. Hopefully I will finish it this weekend hopefully. On the TV front I re-watched Jericho. Man that’s a great show. Ending too soon, but I ca

The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space.
Well this week was the first week at the new job so I did not have a ton of energy to put into book work, lame I know. But I am gonna try and get some done this weekend and now that I have the work schedule kinda aligned, I should be able to start working on book stuff before and after work for a few hours. This week, as the title suggests I read Carl Sagon's Contact. It was amazing and I watched the movie after and of course the book is better. Now with that book back in the

Well this week has been mostly reading. I didn’t work on writing or books this week, just focused on some job stuff. I finished Moby dick and it was great the ending was about as perfect as you can get for that story. I also started Contact by Carl Sagan and it’s awesome so far. On the TV front I started watching the Americans and it’s a great old spy show. Well that’s it for this week. Nice and quick. Be kind and peace and love to each other. here is this weeks cat tax

Well the book work has been slow going this past bit as I have been getting organized to start a new job IRL. However, I was able to get about five hundred ish words in this morning and am hoping that once I start this job and get into a good schedule my regular daily book work should continue. As the title shows, still reading Moby Dick. It's still great. I absolutely love where the later half of the book is going. I was not sure what a whale ship would do to con another new
